Project Overview:
The British Waterways brief covered an extensive backlog of urgent maintenance works that needed to be carried out throughout Northern England and the Midlands. The client had committed to spend £5 million per year over a five-year period to clear a backlog of works, varying in size and complexity with values that ranged from £40k to £1.5 million.
Many of the projects involved works on structures of historical importance that had Heritage Preservation orders placed upon them. In addition, the majority of the works were deemed environmentally sensitive requiring Schofield Lothian to undertake a range of environmental management services.
Delivery:
At the initial feasibility, planning and budgeting stage, Schofield Lothian took responsibility for meeting and liaising with all stakeholders affected by the proposed works, including third parties such as landowners, the Environment Agency and statutory authorities. In addition, a process of value engineering and lifecycle costing was undertaken.
Only then was it possible to finalise and submit all costs involved for carrying out the works for agreement. Once parties had agreed the target costs, we developed and implemented the project schemes taking on full onsite management and administration while managing the ongoing expectations of all stakeholders. Schofield Lothian’s main areas of responsibility included:
- Negotiation and management of sub-contracts
- Document control and change management
- Risk assessment and management
- Negotiation and settlement of final account
- All financial monitoring and reporting
- Handling of contractual dispute negotiation and resolution
