Gearing up for the Olympics
14/07/08
The North London Line Capacity Enhancement Project is part of Network Rail's wider North London Railway Infrastructure Project (NLRIP) with the objective of delivering a sustained increase in investment that will provide east London with a transport legacy in time for the Olympics in 2012,
The scheme consists of a programme of enhancements for the North London Line (Richmond to Stratford) with the aim of making marked improvements to capacity and capability. These changes are running in tandem with the renewals that Network Rail is undertaking for completion before the 2012 Olympic Games. These will see the East London Line extended south to Croydon and North through Hackney to connect with the North London Line at Highbury and Islington.
The North London line enhancement also proposes a higher-frequency, metro style service between Richmond and Stratford.
Network Rail has now placed an additional order for Schofield Lothian to provide a Consents Co-ordination Service that will commence in June 2008.
