New Reading Station Contract

20/04/08

It was announced today that Schofield Lothian have been awarded a 2 year contract to support Network Rail on the forthcoming re-modelling of the Reading Station area.

Reading is one of the most critical rail hubs in Britain, yet current track layout and signalling severely limits the number of services that can travel through the station effecting services for London Paddington, Bristol, South Wales, Oxford, London Waterloo, Gatwick Airport and the south coast. The project will deliver a 37% improvement in service performance and reliability by 2015.

The Government has pledged £425m for the project, while Network Rail and Reading Borough Council invested considerable sums to start initial planning of the scheme. Network Rail has earmarked a further £35m to continue the development of these plans.

Schofield have been called in for their expertise at preparing and managing the complex process of Transport & Works Orders critical to such a major project. In the past the company has successfully delivered for a number of high profile projects including the Channel Tunnel Rail Link and DLR 3 Car Enhancement project.

Preliminary works are expected to start in 2009 following thorough local community consultation and design approval. The main programme of work will begin in spring 2010.
